Description

The Suitability and Document Specialist is responsible for reviewing incoming annuity applications and conducting suitability analyses to ensure the annuity product selected meets EquiTrust�??s suitability guidelines for the contract owner�??s financial needs. This position is also responsible for acting as the department point-of-contact for questions, escalations, and workflow system enhancements. The Suitability and Document Specialist is also responsible for maintaining internal communication channels between Regulatory Compliance, Policy Administration and the Sales Support team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Suitability Review

  • Reviews annuity applications and required documents in accordance with annuity suitability guidelines; exercises good judgement and decision making.
  • Makes determinations as to whether each sale will be accepted or declined based on suitability and other business guidelines.
  • Works with agents and applicants to obtain missing or incomplete information needed to complete annuity suitability review, as well as clarifies additional documentation requirements.
  • Ensures adherence to internal policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulatory requirements dealing with the annuity suitability review process.
  • Effectively communicates with all other departments within the company regarding any changes to suitability procedures.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of offered annuity products as well as external financial products.
  • Actively manages workflow queues to ensure items are processed in a timely manner and in accordance with internal company standards.
  • Identifies computer system deficiencies and works with department manager in preparing requests for programming updates and modifications.
  • Conducts system testing and makes recommendations for enhancements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Seeks participation in industry related groups to ensure company is in compliance with industry regulations. Offers new ideas gained through participation, or risks identified to the compliance manager.
  • Leads by example and provides a positive influence within the department.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
  • Supports Regulatory Compliance team and/or other departments on an as needed basis.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have good mathematical, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong phone presence and skills in handling escalated calls under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize workflows, establish and meet deadlines and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of situations and respond to change in a positive manner.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to navigate multiple systems and programs including Microsoft Office, proprietary systems and other technology solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required, including a high degree of professionalism.

Training or Work Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of insurance, life insurance or annuity industry experience required.
  • 3 years of insurance, life insurance and/or annuity experience preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of relevant compliance or internal audit experience preferred.
  • Suitability experience or financial underwriting experience preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Bachelor�??s Degree preferred.

Working Conditions

  • On-Site Location: West Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Business Travel: Infrequent travel (less than 5% of the time).
